Trout stocking - 2026

The trout nursery receives fish from the PA. Fish and Boat Commission  (PFBC) in July of each year. We are provided with about 3,000 trout consisting of 1500 brown trout and 1500 rainbow trout along with 50 or so Golden trout. The trout nursery is checked daily by one of the volunteer trout nursery technicians who are responsible for recording air and water temperature , cleaning the intake, raceway, and discharge areas, and hand feeding the trout to supplement the feed that the trout get from the automatic feeders. During the winter when ice is present, 2 or 3 volunteers will check the facility and clear the ice so that proper water flow is supplied throughout the entire facility.

The trout grow from 4 inches when received to approximately 9 to 14 inches prior to stocking them in late April. The trout are stocked after the last PFBC in-season stocking. This year, the trout were stocked during the week of April 20 in the West branch of Octoraro Creek, Conowingo Creek, and in Fishing Creek which are located in southern Lancaster county.

In addition to helping with the  trout nursery, several of the volunteer technicians also assist the Trout Derby Manager with the annual kids fishing derby that is held  at the Club’s pond in late April.
