PRACTICAL PISTOL COMPETITION (PPC)
Shooting is in 5 stages, ranging from 3 to 25 yards, using B27 silhouettes. All stages are timed fire, started and ended with a whistle. Each stage is explained prior to start of the stage. Stages include shooting with weak hand, barricade use, and kneeling. On range, eye & ear protection is required at all times by both participants & observers.
PPC is a good practice course for any experience level. New shooters are welcome! Veteran shooters are available for instructions and shooting tips.
WHAT TO BRING
- Eye protection
- Ear protection
- Revolver or semi-auto, .32 cal or larger
- Revolvers: 3 speed loaders
- Semi-autos: 4 mags minimum
- Holster
- Mag or ammo pouches
- 60 rounds of ammo per course of fire – no high-speed or magnum loads, standard or target velocity only
Cost: $3 per round, possibility of 3 rounds = $9 possible total
You choose how many rounds you’d like to shoot.

Registration: 9:30 a.m.
Shooting starts: 10 a.m.
Duration: If all 3 rounds are fired, shoot typically ends by 12:30 p.m.
SCORING
Participants score their neighbor’s target. Scores are added up after each shoot, and results are available at the next shoot. The season average is based on your 6 highest scores, for potential NRA designations of Master, Expert, Sharp Shooter, and Marksman. Plaques are awarded at the end of the season based on the NRA classes obtained. You must have at least 6 scores to receive a plaque.

Welcome to PPC, practical pistol. For roughly 30 years, I have been shooting PPC and have been a member of SLCFSA for 35 years. I have enjoyed pistol shooting for a long time. It doesn’t matter if you are new to shooting or experienced, PPC is great practice for improving proficiency. PPC combines speed and accuracy with commonly used carry handguns while firing from different positions including cover. Practicing here should allow a shooter to use his or her weapon with confidence in a real world situation.
